Blog Homework 3.14

Blog Homework 3/14

For this blog assignment I went on Google and searched for “Vegetarian Groups”. The first result that popped up was the “Vegetarian Resource Group” (VRG) which specialized in informing people on recipes as well as statistics and data on vegetarian lifestyles. Due to the fact that it was the first result from Google shows the relevance to people and how important and dynamic this group must be to people all over the world. VRG has an incredible site with categorical organization along the sidelines that are very helpful. Categories such as press releases, recipes, nutrition, ingredient information, and business information will be things I could very well include into my presentation.
The great part about the VRG is not only the organization of the site itself, but the amount of information the site contains. Databases such as Galileo will be helpful in scholarly research, but other websites may be just as useful in the end in regards to my project. The nutritional facts that are provided are going to be essential in my project as convincing people about eating healthier using statistics will be just as important as conveying the topic in general.

I personally am far from a vegetarian, but your topic did catch my attention. Southern food is definitely a weakness of mine so I am excited to hear about the benefits of something like a vegetarian diet. It sounds like you have gotten some good information and the demographics side of your research was a very interesting point. The only thing I was unsure about was whether you were focusing on the health benefits of someone's diet changing strictly to vegetarian or simply just eating healthier. Good luck!

  2. State of the Project Presentation Feedback:

I thought you're topic was soooo interesting.(and I'm not exaggerating). You stated lots of information about the benefits of being a vegetarian that I kind of got lost in my notes about what your actual topic was. I think it was something like the benefits of terrible foods to changing their diet or something like the benefits of being a vegetarian. Either one, I think they are great topics because it is something that us as people should really look into. I have no problem with being a vegetarian but I just feel it is so hard to give up meat. I also think the comparison between other countries would be interesting as well because everyone eats different around the world and it would have been cool to know why certain countries don't eat meat and only eat cultural things. I thought it was a great touch to include your personal story in the presentation. Overall, it caught my attention and I think that you are on the right track. Good luck

Mathew I think you have chosen a very good topic. I loved how you picked it because you are a vegetarian and may I say I give you respect now. I thought being a vegetarian was silly, not because of why people chose to be a vegetarian, but because that giving up meat as a source of protein. Hearing that you use to weigh at 300 and then became a vegetarian 6 years ago, I can see the good effects of being a vegetarian can be. Not only am I interested in your topic but I believe you can be a very good vegetarian model to anyone. I am interested in seeing how your research comes out and there are something’s that I think would be very helpful towards your topic. You could find statistics on Asian health compared to American health. Another helpful statistic you could find is the increase of American health risk with the increase of fast food restaurants or even job loss (low income/fast food is cheaper). If you need help finding resources or information, grab any woman’s weight loss magazine. I’m interested in your topic and I think you will do very well!

Hi Matthew, this is Glenda. I enjoyed your presentation today. I didn't know you were from the north how cool. Welcome to the south. Hope you like it here. I hope you will get a chance to try all of the different cultures of food. Maybe I will get a chance to have some fun with you about the foods you have already eaten and the differences of the ones you will eat. I like the fact you are vegetarian. The job I work we sell vegetarian burgers. I was surprised to know that you have lost so much weight. I am trying to loose weight so maybe we can get together sometime and discuss this. You really caught my attention with your topic. I am excited to hear more on your topic later on. I am looking forward to more good information on your next presentation. I know you will do real good.

  6. Dear Matthew,
It looks like I'm not the only one who really enjoyed your presentation. You did a great job; especially as the first person of the day. Your topic is very fascinating and you are so passionate about it. I honestly don't have any negative comments about your presentation and I can't really think of any suggestions. I will try to give one though, so here it goes.
One of the issues that people run into, that you brought up, was cost. I wonder if you could go into a detailed walk through on how food production for both effects their prices. I know that with Economic production: Allocating efficiently, labor, and time; effect the price. An Example of one way a company can efficiently allocating resources for a non-organic production, is using chemicals. It allows foods to last longer on shelves and the company loosing profit from spoiled goods decreases. By doing this, companies can maximize production time and prices are cheaper. And as a result, cheap price can be a driving force for the reason people choose these unhealthy foods.
